We have the joy and responsibility of reaching others with the gospel and discipling them as they grow. It’s a responsibility that we bear personally, and corporately. So, the first step in our missionary endeavors is always personal – to reach out to those around us – even our children and our friends can be considered a mission field and/or in need of discipleship. In everything that we do, and everywhere we go, we try to be salt and light impacting the lives of people around us for the gospel – we don’t ‘send’ missionaries, we ‘are’ missionaries. As a church body, we reach out corporately: both locally and internationally.

LOCAL MISSIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS: Locally, we support homeless outreaches, provide support to people in need, serve pregnant families, and assist in the domestic offices of international ministries. Below is a list of opportunities and ways to get involved in doing the Lord’s work in the area, and right here in our own church!

– ASSIST PREGNANCY CENTER A locally organized, faith-based, non-profit organization. Services are free, confidential, and available regardless of income, race, or religion. Assist operates on financial donations by individuals, churches, and private organizations and is committed to providing services in a compassionate and thoughtful manner. It is APC’s desire that every young woman facing an unplanned pregnancy would have access to accurate information concerning all of her options. (excerpt from Assist Pregnancy Center About Page)

– TCGC MEAL TRAIN Is someone going through a difficult or challenging time due to a birth, surgery, illness, etc.? Help with meals makes life a little easier and allows friends, family, and congregation members to assist during a time of need. If you would like to help, please join The City Gates Church Meal Train. You can show you care by cooking and taking a meal to a congregation member. If you or someone you know would be blessed by receiving 3-6 meals, please let us know so we can start arranging your Meal Train. All of the organization and set up of our Meal Trains is done easily through email and online, so please contact Hilary at HilaryAB@aol.com to join or receive meals!

– CENTRAL UNION MISSION A faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with seven locations throughout the Washington metropolitan area. In addition to its family ministries, the Mission operates an emergency shelter program, a rehabilitation program for men with life-controlling issues, a food, clothing and furniture distribution center, a retreat and recreation center with a camp for underprivileged children, programs for isolated seniors, computer and job training and transitional and low-cost housing.
